What We Do

Services

Working in collaboration with a group of like-minded professionals, I provide mental health services that support your efforts to build the life you want to create.

My Mission & Vision

I know that life is a challenge for everyone and that the struggle can make us stronger. But I also know that the greatest strength of humanity is when we work together toward a common goal. We have sayings that support this idea:

  • No person is an island;

  • It takes a village to raise a child;

  • Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much!

My mission is to provide purposeful, effective, non-judgmental and accepting mental health support to adults who are struggling with life’s challenges.

I believe that it’s possible for one conversation to change a person’s life. And I know that the only way to make this world a healthier place for everyone is to focus on the here and now, on the places and people who are in my immediate circle of influence. I plant seeds of compassion, trusting that they will grow into mighty oaks in a future I may never get to see. I am a gardener; my job is to plant the seeds. Your job is to grow.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been. What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?”

— George Eliot

Methods

I have a lot of training and experience in a type of therapy called Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), which is typically provided as part of a team-based intervention. In private practice, my experience with DBT certainly informs my approach to mental health, though I do not offer comprehensive DBT treatment at this time. I do provide the following types of interventions, based on what you and I agree would be the best match for your needs. If you’d like to know more about how these methods can help you, book a free consultation meeting!

  • DBT informed individual therapy;

  • Solution-focused, one-session-at-a-time therapy;

  • DBT approach to addiction treatment;

  • Processing of traumatic experiences (sometimes paired with DBT skills for experiencing and expressing emotions);

  • Support for First Responders (I spent 10 years in those trenches too);

  • Educational groups on different topics related to mental health;

  • Mentorship and coaching for other mental health professionals.

What to Expect

  • The initial consultation call is a 15 minute meet and greet (video preferred, but we can do it by phone too). You can tell me what you’re looking for. I can tell you how I think I can help. It will give you an idea about whether I’m the right person for you.

  • After that, you book your own appointments when and if you want to. I offer both in-person and virtual sessions.

  • If we decide to work together, we’ll go over informed consent, which includes a review of the risks and benefits of the service you’ve chosen, along with any limits of confidentiality.

  • If our work is ongoing, I’ll likely have you fill out some questionnaires to help guide us.

  • Your responsibility is to attend the appointments (or cancel in advance if you can’t make it) and to actively participate. This is a collaborative process, not a passive service that I do to you.

  • I’ll ask you for feedback, to make sure that I’m on track with what you need and that we’re meeting your goals.

  • I will likely assign you some “homework” to do between sessions. The homework is always optional, but it really does accelerate the process so that you reach your goals sooner.
